Mount Airy aims to have table games by summer

Monroe residents could be doubling down in their own backyards before next summer.
The state's casino operators want a table games law as a late Christmas gift.

The state's legislative bodies are negotiating a final version of the bill, and the governor threatened layoffs if one isn't passed by the first week in January.

Reaction to Eachus situation mixed

A political foe of state Rep. Todd Eachus said Tuesday’s Associated Press report that the House majority leader directed state employees to work on political campaigns “sounds serious,” while a colleague called him a “stellar guy.”

Republican Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta said until Eachus is charged, he would reserve further comment. Barletta is a candidate for the GOP nomination in the 11th Congressional District.

Carney to get GOP challenger

Snyder County Commissioner Malcolm Derk has announced his candidacy for U.S. Congress in Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District.

Derk, 27, of Freeburg, will be seeking the Republican nomination to challenge two-term incumbent Democrat Chris Carney of Dimock Township, Susquehanna County.Derk is the first Republican to enter the race. Two other names have surfaced in the 10th District – state Rep. Mike Peifer of Greentown in Pike County and former U.S. Attorney Thomas Marino of Lycoming County.

’10 court to rule on CV case retrial

WILKES-BARRE – A Luzerne County judge said Tuesday he would leave it up to his successors to decide how to retry a $3.5 million defamation case against The Citizens’ Voice newspaper.

President Judge Chester Muroski said there are at least three different ways to have the case retried, including bringing in an out-of-town judge.
